Birding the Fault Zone at Bolinas Lagoon: North American Plate
Take part in this friendly tectonic birding competition by joining Gary Page and Lynne Stenzel on the east "Continental Plate" side of the San Andreas fault, to bird Stinson Beach and its environs and then work north along the east side of Bolinas Lagoon. At 1:30 pm the outing will end at Five Brooks for a compilation meeting and lunch with the competing 'Pacific Plate' team, plus some birding at Five Brooks. Expect to see about 80 species of water, forest, and grasslands birds. This is not a trip for beginning birders: the team will move quickly, and there will not be a lot of time for careful study of each species. Guide: Gary Page and Lynne Stenzel Carpool from: Dance Palace Community Center, 503 B Street, Point Reyes Station, at 6:30 am Where to meet: 7:30 am at the parking area for Steep Ravine. Go about a mile south of Stinson Beach on Highway 1. The meeting site is 5.2 miles north of Muir Beach on Coast Highway 1 and 1 mile south of Stinson Beach. If you miss the group, they will stop at the Stinson Beach Post Office between 8:15 and 8:30 am. Event location: Stinson Gulch, Bolinas Lagoon, Five Brooks What to bring: Binoculars; hiking boots; warm clothing; water, lunch Limited to 15 participants
