Birdwalking: Olema Marsh to Bear Valley
This classic Point Reyes walk begins at Olema Marsh, one of the largest freshwater marsh areas in Marin County. It continues through a variety of open, wooded, and riparian habitats, including Limantour Road, Kule Loklo (a replica Coast Miwok traditional village), the Bear Valley Visitor Center, and the Bear Valley Trail. Easy trail walking. Guide: Jim White Where to meet: Olema Marsh parking lot entrance on Bear Valley Road, about two miles north of the Bear Valley Visitor Center at 9:00 am. Event location: Olema Marsh Trail to Bear Valley Trail What to bring: Binoculars; scope, if possible: hiking boots; warm clothing; lunch, water Limited to 15 participants Target bird or species information: sora; Virginia rail; green heron; saltmarsh yellowthroat; yellow warbler; American bittern; great egret; great blue heron; marsh wren; pine siskin; osprey; black-headed grosbeak; Swainson's thrush; Allen's hummingbird; Wilson's and orange-crowned warblers; red-shouldered hawk.
