Local Food Wisdom presents Ingredients, a documentary film

American food is in a state of crisis. Health, food costs and our environment are all in jeopardy. A movement to put good food back on the table is emerging. What began 30 years ago with chefs demanding better flavor, has inspired consumers to seek relationships with nearby farmers. This is local food.

Please join us for the Chicago debut of this new documentary film, presented by Jim Javenkoski, founder of Local Food Wisdom. In addition to the film screening, the event includes networking with other locavores, food provided by Chef Matt Maroni of gaztro-wagon and a brief panel session featuring farmers Beth and Brent Eccles (Green Acres Farm, North Judson, IN) and chef Marianne Sundquist (In Fine Spirits in Andersonville). A cash bar will offer selected brews from Chicago's own Revolution and Haymarket breweries. Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase an advance copy of the Ingredients DVD for $20 (the film will be commercially released in late March 2011).

Good news! I'm happy to confirm that chef Marianne Sundquist of In Fine Spirits (in Andersonville) will participate in our farmer-chef panel discussion, immediately following the screening.

Marianne will be joined on the panel by Beth and Brent Eccles of Green Acres Farm, an organic, third-generation, family farm located in North Judson, Indiana.

A film about local food should be presented with local food (and beer)! All attendees of the screening can enjoy skillet-popped corn from Nichols Farm & Orchard (Marengo, IL) with Harvest Butter from Nordic Creamery (Westby, WI), followed by a trio of mini-naanwiches prepared by chef Matt Maroni, owner of gaztro-wagon, the granddaddy of Chicago food trucks. Wash down the local nosh with hyper-local draft beer from Revolution (located just a few doors down the street from Logan Square Kitchen) and Haymarket, Chicago's newest brew pub.

There will be a bounty of delicious local foods to enjoy during the film screening at Logan Square Kitchen. Chef Matt Maroni will skillet-pop corn, tossed with sweet, spicy and buttery flavors. Additionally, you can nosh on a selection of artisan cheeses courtesy of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, artisan fruit preserves courtesy of Rare Bird and fresh, sliced baquette courtesy of Red Hen Bread & Provenance Food and Wine. Pair it all with a selected draft brew from Revolution and Haymarket (cash bar) and then sit down to enjoy an equally delicious documentary film.

Following the film and a brief chat with our chef/farmer panel, you can feast on a trio of special-recipe naanwiches (including a vegetarian option) served-up by Matt.

Film! Food! Fun! For all! =)

Advance tickets for the debut screening of Ingredients are now sold-out. However, we will offer a total of twelve (12) standing room only tickets ($20, cash only) on a first-come, first-served basis at Logan Square Kitchen beginning at 6 PM on Tuesday evening, 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the event.
