Born in Antigua, Jamaica Kincaid has written throughout her life on colonialism and exploitation, familial relations, Caribbean culture, race, power and social injustice. In her talk at SSU she will speak on reading and writing under slavery and the residual effect of literacy in slavery's aftermath.
