Master drummer, storyteller, scholar of myth, and wilderness rites-of-passage guide Martin Shaw travels from his home in Devon UK to make a rare appearance in Port Townsend, WA. On Monday, January 24 Shaw will talk, drum, and tell indigenous stories from the oral traditions of the world. The evening will include performances by Port Townsend's own Daniel Deardorff (storyteller) and The Mythsinger Drum Quire. In 2009, Shaw visited Port Townsend sharing stories and teachings to those who participated in his sold out performance and workshop. This year's event will feed the souls of all who attend.
About the Artists:
Martin Shaw is a mythologist, storyteller, and wilderness rites-of-passage guide. An international teacher, Shaw is visiting lecturer on Archbishop Desmond Tutu's Leadership program at Oxford University. He is the Author of A Branch from the Lightning Tree: Ecstatic Myth and the Grace in Wildness (Ragnell Press 2009) Shaw is also the Founder of The Westcountry School of Myth & Story www.schoolofmyth.com
"Martin Shaw presides over an astonishing flow of language, which brings much reading with it, and a great deal of time in the wilderness. Owls and stags live here. This is not like school. He is writing about experiencing ancient myths in a new way, and he does it elegantly. As a storyteller he moves very surely, encouraging professors' teeth to fall out and the teeth of the young to grow." ROBERT BLY
