A Family Reunion
Children abducted by strangers!  Children discovered years later and reunited with their families.  These are familiar headlines.  But what happens to the lives and minds of these young people during their captivity?  These are the questions explored by a gripping new play that has its World Premiere at The Writers' Center in Bethesda, MD on March 5 and 6.

"A Family Reunion" is written, directed and produced by Larry E. Blossom, a psychotherapist who brings his special expertise in psychological trauma and its consequences to bear on the characters' development.  While the abducted children -- Sarah and Joey Gunnarson -- have suffered, so has the family left behind: A father, mother and sister, who struggles with her secret guilt about their disappearance.

The riveting action of the play takes place over the weekend when the reunion, long hoped for, finally takes place.  Blossom - leavening the drama with dark humor --  artfully creates a mix of longing, suspicion, anger, and love that even trauma cannot extinguish.

To make the point that the events of the play, though fictional, are unfortunately all too common in reality, Blossom has invited representatives of two organizations that have reached out to help those who have lost their families and their bearing in life: The David Lynch Foundation and Courtney's House.

After two of the performances, the audience will be given an opportunity to interact with these people and discuss with them how the events in the play correspond to the real world.

Thus, "A Family Reunion" promises a gripping theatrical experience -- and a window into a world that most of us luckily will never know personally, but that all who care about children and families might want to know more about.
