ASPIRE TO INSPIRE
The event will take place in the hills above Barham at a private residence to raise funds for our winter 2011 program and future projects. The night will include performances by various musician and dancers, food, drinks, a raffle, and swag. The evening will begin at 7:30 with food and drinks, and performances will begin at 8:30, followed by a short break and another set of performers at 10:00. It will be an eclectic, intimate, fun evening.
GENESIS: SARAJEVO is a non-profit organization working to spread dance and artistic opportunities to post-conflict, developing regions of the world. Our mission is to create artistic outlets to help create more productive societies. Our project specifically focuses on social awareness, uniting different cultures and religions through dance, and creating a livelihood for artists in developing regions. Since 2006, two-week dance intensives that include tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and musical theatre dance training have been conducted throughout Bosnia & Herzegovina. At the end of the two-weeks the dancers perform a show at a local theatre or outside on a main stage in the city center. The dancers are ages 8-18, and an adult group was added in January 2010. In addition to the dance intensives, monthly workshops are also held, which are conducted by a local Bosnian instructor. Over the more recent months this part of our program has been put on hold due to funding. The program is free for these students, which makes our fundraising campaign crucial. We are having this benefit to raise money for our Winter 2011 Dance Intensive and to get our monthly workshops back on track. There are many other long term goals for the program and for the dancers as our funding becomes more consistent (i.e. bringing dancers to the U.S. to study dance for a couple of weeks, and eventually implementing this program in other developing countries).
