Sing, Dance, Act & JAZZ it Up…Merry Like Christmas
The Memphis Black Arts Alliance's Arts-A-Fire Youth Theater Troupe produces its first original musical production, Sing, Dance, Act & JAZZ it Up…Merry Like Christmas, December 17 – 19 at the Evergreen Theater under the direction of Naomi Williams Moody. Adapted from the hit Broadway musical "A Chorus Line," the play, features writings and stories of each of the fourteen actors, ages 10-19 as they audition for a part in the Troupe's Annual Holiday Show. Singing and dancing to jazz, urban, Broadway and gospel music the actors demonstrate and express the discipline, joy and sometimes the pain it takes to achieve "excellence on stage and in life," the motto of the Arts-A-F!RE Youth Theater Troupe. Once cast, the Annual Holiday Show is performed with songs, dances and vignettes that focus on various celebrations which take place in December (i.e. Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa).
The production concludes with the inaugural performance of the Jazz-A-F!RE Youth Ensemble, featuring young vocalists and musicians, ages 12 – 18 from MBAA's FireHouse Community Arts Academy led by Musical Director, Kent Suggs.
Ticket prices are $12 General Admission, $10 Members, $7 Children under 12.
