Sanctuary Tour with artist Stephen Talasnik / May 30 and Oct 17 at 1:30pm
Sanctuary is a large scale site-specific installation of woven reed for Manitoga's central Quarry Pool.
Experience Sanctuary as you explore Manitoga's Upper and Lower Quarry Pool paths and discover hidden moments with Talasnik. House & Studio visit included.

Visitors meet at Manitoga's Visitor/Guide House next to the parking lot located at 584 Route 9D in Garrison, NY. The guide will arrive just before the tour begins. No pets please.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Talasnik was drawn to Manitoga's seamless architecture and natural splendor. "There is an intimacy to the choreographed environment that engages the senses. It compels the individual to confront a very immediate and intimate space within a suggestively theatrical large-scale natural sanctuary," says the artist.
Inspired by the aesthetics of engineering, Talasnik's sculptural works intersect with his ongoing studio investigation of drawing. Intrigued with skeletal hand built structures, his approach to building is informed by his years of residency and travel in the Far East where he studied the traditions of indigenous hand built systems that employ natural materials.
Talasnik's work is included in major international collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; The Pompidou in Paris; British Museum, London; The Albertina, Vienna; and The State Museum of Berlin. Additional information about the artist is available at www.stephentalasnik.com.

Located in Garrison, New York, approximately one hour north of New York City, Manitoga is the House, Studio and 75-acre Woodland Garden of American industrial designer Russel Wright (1904-1976) and one of the few 20th century modern homes and landscapes open to the public in New York State.
