North Star Fund is the community foundation that advances the collective good. We have been the first to fund the fight in New York City for 27 years. Every year at our community gala, North Star Fund honors and celebrates those New Yorkers working to create a better city for us all.

Carmen Charles
President of Municipal Hospital Employees Local 420, District Council 37 AFSCME
For building a labor movement that stands for social justice and immigrant rights.
The North Star Fund Frederick Douglass Award recognizes grassroots leaders striving for equality, economic justice and peace -the values at the heart of North Star Funds mission.
This year, the North Star Fund Frederick Douglass awards go to:
Girls Education & Mentoring Services (GEMS) for supporting and empowering young women at risk of sexual violence.
Esperanza del Barrio for organizing street vendors to provide a better life for themselves and their children.
