A Staged Reading of "Volver, Volver, Volver."
Seattle's new Latino Theater Collective, eSe Teatro: Seattle Latinos Take Stage, presents a staged reading of Leonard Madrid's dramatic piece entitled "Volver, Volver, Volver," directed by Michael D. Blum.  This presentation is in partnership with Consejo Counseling and Referral Services celebrating the longstanding Mexican traditional community festival Día Del LosMuertos / Day of the Dead. The reading will take place at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center at 3515 S Alaska Street, Seattle 98118 and made possible through grants from 4Culture and the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs. The celebration begins at 7PM. Consejo Counseling and Referral Service will be building a traditional Day of the Dead altar and provide a musical presentation by "Los Consejeros" featuring Laura Oviedo and Enrique Wetzel. The reading will be presented in English and peppered with Spanish.  Admission is $7/ $5 students & seniors.

"Volver, Volver, Volver" tells the story of Junie Holguine's return home to Portales, New Mexico. His return has been a summons by three very important people in his life, his mother, his wife and his daughter, only Junie is not of this world. In the vein of classical narratives where a spirit protagonist visits his loved ones before passing into the next incarnation, "Volver, Volver, Volver" offers a unique insight into the manner in which Latinos identify families, resolve issues of regret, and celebrate and honor the dead. There is a special magic of New Mexico in the reconciliation of Junie's past. "Volver, Volver, Volver" in both its comedy and heartbreak, is a crowd-pleaser.

The reading's director, Blum, come to us from New Mexico and is the co-founder of two Latino theatre companies; La Compañía de Teatro de Alburquerque, Inc. circa 1980's,and more recently Teatro Nuevo México, where he served as Artistic Director for four years.

Playwright Leonard Madrid is a three-time recipient of the Kennedy Center Latino Playwright Award. Recently, "Volver, Volver, Volver" received the LatinoWorks Award for the Association for Theater in Higher Learning.  Actors include Stela Diaz, Erwin Galan, Rose Cano, Meg Savlov and Michael D. Blum.

The ensemble's genesis was prompted by the desire to provide a to give a voice to Latino theater artists in Seattle and to provide a venue for the creation of new and established works.  By maintaining a sustained Latino theater presence in Seattle we hope to encourage Latino actors, directors and writers to stay in the region and produce work that reflects the ever-growing Latino population of our area. Our mission is to provide a space for Latino theater artists to explore their talent with the support of peers and community.
