Journalism: a.WAKE.ning?
NewsWrights United is excited to invite the Seattle community to join them at The Upstairs Gallery above Theatre Off Jackson on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 7:30pm for "Journalism: a.WAKE.ning?," an event to raise funds for and awareness of NewsWrights programming. The evening will include interactive media activities, commissioned visual art and live performance, as well as a cocktail hour with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.

The overarching theme of "Journalism: a.WAKE.ning?" is a simple question with profound implications: are we in the midst of a revolutionary change in journalism, or is it already dead? Is this a coming-out party, or a wake? Each guest will receive a complimentary glass of champagne or shot of rye, depending on their outlook on the question.

The live performance portion of "Journalism: a.WAKE.ning?" will feature a preview of NewsWrights' upcoming production, "The New New News: a Living Newspaper," whose script is currently in production. Playwright and NewsWrights Producer Dawson Nichols directs The New New News and will stage the preview reading. NewsWrights Producer Tom Paulson, NPR global health blogger and 20-year veteran of the Seattle P-I, will moderate a panel discussion on new media featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning P-I political cartoonist Dave Horsey, Monica Guzman of Intersect.com, Mark Higgins, Metro Editor at Seattle Times, Publicola's Josh Feit, local sportswriting legend Art Thiel, The Stranger theatre critic Brendan Kiley, and Chris Grygiel, coordinator of political coverage for the P-I blogs.

NewsWrights United is an Associated Program of Shunpike.
