African round table on Nigeria and upcoming elections
With national elections in Nigeria just around the corner, questions are being raised about the media - can it be trusted to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Or has it been bought lock, stock and barrel by a millionaire oil baron or a washed up ex-dictator?
'Media for sale' seemed to be the caption for a leaked photo of top news editors after a dinner at the lavish home of former strongman Ibrahim Babangida (known for the tendency to bump off his critics) and the admission by some of them that generous "transportation money" was offered and accepted.
Our guest host, investigative reporter Sowore Omoyele, will interview some of Nigeria's top media execs at a special Roundtable on Elections 2011 - Turningpoint for Democracy.
