The Ching Room
Alan Bissett's compelling debut play, set entirely in a nightclub toilet cubicle.
Rory realises he is out of his depth once he becomes trapped by the terrifying and enigmatic drug-dealer, Darren. "For only two people are allowed entry beyond the red ropes at any one time, sir. And these people are - at present - myself and yourself. Boss Ching has arranged it thus."
"Has subtle depth as a meditation on drug culture . . . The character of Darren is a demon for our times." -The Scotsman (of a 2009 production)
Performed by Dickson Telfer and Kal Sabir. Directed by Iain McAleese. Sound and lights by Ali Jones.
Dickson Telfer is the author of two short story collections, 'The Red Man Turns to Green' and 'Refrigerator Cake' (Fledgling Press), endorsed by Alan Bissett and Gordon Legge respectively. He is a regular performer on the spoken word scene and wrote and performed his one man show 'Secret Weapons' at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012. "Every scene is excellently told and well timed; each character that he inhabits adds another layer of comedy to the performance." - Three Weeks.
Kal Sabir is a multi-skilled creative with ten years' experience in the performing arts. He's dabbled in many genres on both stage and screen. This, however, is his first time playing a guy desperate to defecate.
Iain McAleese has been in 'the business' for 35 years. He has worked as an actor, director, voice coach and has taught performing arts students at several universities.
Ali Jones has been a sound and lighting engineer at the Edinburgh Fringe for 14 years for Practical Magic Theatre. His credits include 'the Steamie', 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and 'Trainspotting'. He also did the technical stuff for Dickson Telfer's 'Secret Weapons'.
Alan Bissett is an award winning author, playwright and performer. He won Glenfiddich Scottish Writer of the Year in 2011 and has received many glowing reviews for his plays and novels. His 'Collected Plays' is published by Freight Books and will be available after the show as well as in bookshops and online.
