Pick-Up Artist: The Musical
Pick-Up Artist: The Musical (PUA) will kick-off quiet's 2010-2011 season as we begin delving into our season's theme: "enGender Bender: Exploring our social blueprints." The musical investigates the balance between the masculine and feminine; it asks the audience to examine preconceived notions about what it means to be man and what it means to be woman in today's American society.
Follow the story of Enigma as he and his wingmen, Manifesto and the Fox, try to make men out of three extreme losers. Told through the eyes of the Announcer and his players, there is no telling how far these boys will go to become men.
quiet works in partnership with social service organizations and this musical will be used as a venue for dialogue through art. After each performance, there will be a community talkback about gender issues presented in the play. Panelists for the talkbacks will include PUA actors/technicians, quiet members, social service partner representatives and academic instructors. The communal aspect of the talkbacks is geared to create a space for dialogue beyond the performance of the musical.
quiet desires to see social change through the medium of art. Come and be a part of the conversation!
NOTE: Show rated "R" for strong language, some sexual content and adult themes.
quiet is an Associated Program of Shunpike.
