Arepas, Empanadas and Photos!
The first set of Arepa classes were a hit... reason enough for me to do more classes!
I am from Venezuela, where arepas are quintessential to our cuisine, the daily bread of every venezolano. No matter where you live, who you are, or if you are a 9-month old or a 90-year old, an arepa will always be in your plate (and most likely, for not too long).
Hands are crucial in the art of making arepas. Imagine your palms as a mill for a delicious, round and very simple pocket for deliciousness, created to carry and some times overflow of a wide array of fillings.
I am teaching one class on August 21st, 11am to 2pm. Each class is limited to 12 participants.
Class includes:
A little theory:
With a pretty presentation and some Spanish included. One or two comments on the history of this traditional dish, tricks and where to find the ingredients to make them in Seattle.
Hands on:
1. Two kinds of arepas: Asadas (baked) and Fritas (we'll fry a few--what is life without frying a little?)
2. Two fillings: the very popular Reina Pepeada (a classic "Caraquena" arepa) and Perico. We will also try them with cheese.
Ingredients and materials
A very nice bonus: a 45 minutes' photo session after we are done cooking (so you can photograph your own arepa and then enjoy it).
Refreshments
Hope to see you there!
