Performance artist Louis Gervais delivers an extraordinary evening with Shapeshifter, his latest one-man show. Filled with surprises and fun loving characters, Gervais theatre works are consistently well-crafted, high spirited, hilarious affairs. In Shapeshifter, Gervais unpacks a lifetime of skills as a dancer, choreographer and writer. With the added ingredients of gender bending, mask work and improvisation, the combined effect is unlikely to resemble any theatrical event you've ever seen.
Shapeshifter, in three short acts, explores the edges of aliveness as Gervais pushes himself and his cast of characters to the limits of their humanity. Outrageous understudies (carnival worker Randy McCrae and Iphelia, an unforgettable fairy godmother), take on Louis' opening act and launch the evening into unpredictable tangents. Each character approaches the subject of aliveness from their own vantage point.
