Learn to Sail (New Bedford)
State Pier New Bedford, MA
Gazela Primeiro, a 108-year old Portuguese cod fishing ship, will be visiting New Bedford from July 29 to Aug 2, 2010.
Learn the ropes in this Introduction to Tall Ship Sailing, taught by the crew of the Philadelphia's Tall Ship, the Barkentine Gazela. This hands-on course covers knot tying, sail handling and includes an insider's tour of Gazela. The class runs 2 hours and is open to the public. Participants should be in reasonable physical condition and should be able to sustain strenuous activity. Gazela will not leave the dock during the training session. All participants will receive a certificate upon completion.
Note: Class is weather dependent; high winds will prevent the setting of sail. If raining, the class will be rescheduled by the captain of the ship.
