Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents... Comedy Returns to El Rio takes place every 2nd Monday of the month @ 8pm at El Rio. The next show is Monday, July 12th.

Comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 21 years ago at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District. She strives to produce multicultural, multi-everything comedy shows with the variety of shows she produces each year (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Funny Girlz, The Color of Funny). The line-ups are always a diverse cultural, gender, and sexual orientation mix, and her comedy productions showcase some of the funniest and smartest stand up comics from San Francisco and beyond.

The Monday, July 12th show features:
Will Durst, Lisa Geduldig, Ray Ferrer, Sia Amma, Mike Spiegelman, and Eve Meyer.

WILL DURST is a local political comic who transcends party ties, having performed at events honoring former Presidents Bill Clinton and George HW Bush as well as acclaimed appearances at both a Mayors Convention and Governors Conference. Durst is as current as today's headlines, as accurate as a sniper, and universally acknowledged by even his peers as the nation's foremost political comic. The New York Times calls him "quite possibly the best political satirist working in the country today." Durst is a regular commentator for audible.com, Air America, CNN and NPR, writes a nationally syndicated op-ed column, daily website jokes -- yet still finds time to perform hundreds of comedy shows every year -- at clubs, corporate events, theaters and benefits...not to mention the occasional acting and voice-over role. Reigning as C-SPAN's favorite comic (8 appearances,) Durst is a 5-time Emmy nominee and recipient of 7 consecutive nominations for the American Comedy Awards Stand Up of the Year.

LISA GEDULDIG is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Comedy Returns to El Rio; Cafe con Comedy; Charo.

RAY FERRER is a Bay Area-based humorist and drag performer (Coco Lopez) who has presented his work along the East Coast and in Puerto Rico. Locally, Ray has performed at QComedy, Writers with Drinks, The Castro Street Fair, Funny Girlz, and various other sundry comedy/spoken word venues. Rayâs comedy looks at how hilarious it is to be Cuban, Irish and queer.  Ray is the host of the monthly "Dynasty Night," an evening of costume-wearing, camp-loving TV-watching in a Beaux Arts mansion on Lake Merritt in beautiful Oakland.

SIA AMMA is out of Africa. She is a stand up comedian, writer, dancer, and actress who is best known for making fun of African and American cultures, life experiences, and sexuality. Her presentations combine humor and celebration that are refreshing, honest, and very informative about the issue of female circumcision. Her newest presentation for mothers and daughters is called "What Mama Said About 'Down There,'" and she has been a keynote speaker and guest lecturer in schools in West Africa for five years now.

MIKE SPIEGELMAN is a founding member of sketch groups Fresh Robots and The Bitter Show as well as the comedy duo of Laundry Basket & Spiegelman. He has opened for Emo Phillips, David Cross, the late Mitch Hedberg, Robin Williams, and others. He is a frequent host of the Darkroom Theater's "Bad Movie Night," runs the popular Layover Bar comedy showcase in Oakland, and his website "Luggage Tuesdays" is the Internet's finest repository of restaurant and produce-themed humor.

EVE MEYER has spent the last 20 years as The Executive Director of San Francisco Suicide Prevention and the last eighteen years as the mother of Gabriel Edlin, recently named high school city-wide runner-up offensive lineback.  Along the way she developed a sense of humor. She honed her skills doing solo performances at The Marsh and appearances at the annual Camp Mather talent shows. This will be Eve's first night at El Rio.
