Summertime and the Living is Easy (Depuy Canal House)
On Sunday, June 27, the renowned Depuy Canal House of High Falls, New York, will host a special fund-raising event for the Rosendale Theatre Collective. Chef John Novi and sommelier Daniel Johnnes have put together a special dinner menu with a selection of fine French wines.
John Novi is one of America's most exciting cooks. Food writers have called him âextraordinarily creative, ambitious and tenacious" (Gael Greene) and "incredibly innovative and inspiredâ (Craig Claiborne). Novi is an exemplar of what has come to be known as the New American Cuisine. His Depuy Canal House is a five-star restaurant with an international reputation.
Sommelier Daniel Johnnes is wine director for Daniel Bouludâs Dinex Group. In 2006 he received the highest honor awarded to a wine professional in the United States, the James Beard Wine and Spirits Professional of the Year. For this meal he will select wines from his portfolio of French country wines to pair with John Noviâs exquisite cuisine. They are handcrafted by winemakers dedicated to making natural, high-quality wines expressive of their grape varieties and region.
The meal begins with pasta frittata with fresh mozzarella cheese, then offers red wine soup with sour cream, finished with a splash of Pellegrino sparkling water. The main-course buffet features grilled vegetables and marinated, barbeque-smoked chicken and pork loin. Then there is salmon fillet on boufarette hero with asparagus, Swiss cheese and tomato chutney, all tied with gourd string; mesclun salad greens with lemon and olive oil, and ciabatta breads. Dessert is a lemon tart with fresh whipped cream.
As always, Novi uses local ingredients whenever possible.
This event runs from 3 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, June 27, on the outside patio of the Depuy Canal House. The $100 ticket price is all-inclusive.
