Slow Food Orange County Second Annual Barbeque
On June 26, 2010, Slow Food Orange County will host its second annual BBQ in Bommer Canyon, Irvine, California. This event is for the whole family and will focus on good, clean and fair food. The program for the evening will feature speaker Jill Richardson, author of "Recipe for America: Why Our Food System Is Broken and What We Can Do To Fix It", and live bluegrass entertainment by Walden Dahl.

Prior to the main event, there will be an optional short loop hike at 4:30 pm, guided by a docent from the Irvine Ranch Conservancy.  Bommer Canyon is not generally open to the public and is the site of the old Irvine Ranch Cattle Camp. Some of the original structures exist today, adding to the rustic feel of the Canyon. Bommer Canyon is also an important preservation area for many local plants and wildlife, including several endangered species.

The barbeque dinner will be prepared by Chef Ryan Adams, Executive Chef of Sorrento Grille in Laguna Beach, and a team of Slow Food Orange County members. The main course of the will be chicken from Marys Free-Range Chickens in Fresno, CA. Mary's Free-Range Chickens are produced by Pitman Farms, a family-owned business that has been raising poultry for three generations. At the barbeque, the chicken will be marinated and slowly cooked on an open fire.
