2007 Seattle Poetry Festival Workshop: Collaboration
Instructors Joshua Beckman and Matthew Rohrer introduce students to various methods of collaborating with others--live collaborations, Surrealist-inspired text games, collaborations with other texts, erasures, renga chains, etc.--as a way of generating fresh techniques and new forms.

Joshua Beckman was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He is the author of five books, including Shake and two collaborations with Matthew Rohrer: Nice Hat. Thanks. and Adventures While Preaching the Gospel of Beauty. He is an editor at Wave Books and has translated numerous works of poetry and prose, including Poker by Tomaz Salamun, which was a finalist for the PEN America Poetry in Translation Award. He is also the recipient of numerous other awards, including a NYFA fellowship and a Pushcart Prize.
Matthew Rohrer is the author of four books of poems: A Hummock in the Malookas, which won the 1994 National Poetry Series and was chosen by Publishers Weekly as a Best Book of the Year for l995; Satellite; A Green Light (which was shortlisted for the 2005 Griffin Prize); and Nice Hat. Thanks. (written collaboratively with Joshua Beckman). An audio CD, Adventures While Preaching The Gospel Of Beauty, collects some of their live, improvised collaborative poems from their extensive tour to support the book. Matthew Rohrer's poems have appeared in many journals here and overseas, and have been widely anthologized.
Admission for the Seattle Poetry Festival is required in addition to your workshop ticket.
