| Description |
Instructor Michael Dylan Welch leads the group through a theoretical introduction to haiku: its history and aesthetics, including the myths and realities of the genre. Students will write haiku and participate in group discussion and critique.

Michael Dylan Welch is editor and publisher of Tundra: The Journal of the Short Poem, vice president of the Haiku Society of America, and all-round haiku advocate. He has won first place in and judged numerous international haiku contests. Welch has published thousands of his haiku in more than a dozen languages. He is a board member of the Washington Poets Association, founder of the Poets in the Park conference, co-founder/director of the Haiku North America conference, co-founder of the American Haiku Archives, and haiku editor for the brand new Haiku Journey, a computer game from Hot Lava Games / NStorm, distributed by Mumbo Jumbo.
Admission for the Seattle Poetry Festival is required in addition to your workshop ticket.

You must purchase a Seattle Poetry Festival ticket in addition to your workshop ticket. Both ticket stubs must be presented to the instructor no later than 15 minutes prior to the workshop start time.
After that, the workshop will be open to drop-in students for a $5 fee (plus ticket stub from festival admission). |
