After 47 years of tranquility at the Thayer summer cottage, things are about to change. Norman is restless and forgetful and Ethel increasingly concerned about her husband's health. When daughter Chelsea arrives for her father's 80th birthday, childhood wrongs resurface marring the reunion. To make amends, Ethel and Norman agree to host Chelsea's stepson Billy for the summer. The boy's presence compels the Thayers to reconsider the past as they redefine their twilight years on Golden Pond.
