Bainbridge In Bloom Garden Tour
The largest garden tour in the Pacific Northwest celebrates its 22nd anniversary with 7 outstanding gardens to view.
This special weekend begins on July 9 with our Patron Day festivities; all are invited this year to attend the evening garden party at the magnificent Bloedel Reserve where renowned gardener, Daniel J. Hinkley, will mingle with guests. The garden tour is Friday through Sunday, 10am-5pm daily.
There are many ways to enjoy the festivities: 1.Patron Preview Day, Friday, July 9, 10am-5pm. Enjoy a more leisurely day away from the crowds. Ticket holders drive to each destination. Today only one of the gardens will feature the designer of the Bloedel Reserves rock garden, John van den Meerendonk, and pond designer, Robert Tange. Benefactor level ticket holders ($350) will be chauffeured to each garden, treated to lunch with Dan Hinkley on the veranda of a private waterfront home, will tour some of the gardens with him and end the day at the Bloedel garden party (6:00-9:30pm)with a sumptuous dinner, music and a silent art auction. The tour garden owners will also be in attendance. (Tickets for the Bloedel garden party may be purchased separately for $110.) Patron Preview Day tickets are $65 for Enthusiasts (without the Bloedel party) and $175 at Patron level, including the party.
2.General Admission, Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11, 10am-5pm. Park at a central location where plant vendors await with a variety of plant materials for purchase. Leave the driving to us and enjoy the sites as shuttle buses carry you to the gardens and on-board docents provide highlights of each garden you are about to see. Lunch and snack options will be available along the route. Your garden viewing experience will include hearing local musicians in many of the gardens and one will host juried art vendors, with garden art available for purchase. Our lecture series, 11:00 am 2:00 pm on Saturday features Rick Los, Director of Horticulture for The Butchart Gardens and Langdon Cook, author of Fat of the Land, Adventures of a 21st Century Forager. Sundays talks are by Washington State University's Urban Horticulture Extension Specialist, Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott, author of The Informed Gardener and by Ciscoe Morris, well-known for his live radio show, Gardening with Ciscoe, and regular appearances on Gardening by the Yard on the H&G TV network. Your General Admission ticket is good for Saturday and Sunday; you may choose to make it a leisurely weekend and travel the north loop one day, the south loop the next. Or, visit all gardens in one day. $35 at the door; $27 before June 15. $10 for Children under age 12.
3.Bike The Bloom, Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11, 10am-5pm. See beautiful Bainbridge Island up close from your bike. (Bicycles are available for rent on the island and bike racks will be available at each garden.) The Bike route map, including distance and elevations, will be online shortly. Special bicycle pricing of $27.
4.Evening Garden Party at the Bloedel Reserve, Friday, July 9, 6:00-9:30pm. (See Patron Day above for details. A party-only ticket is $110.) For information on the renowned Bloedel Reserve, see www.bloedelreserve.org.
