Ori Tahiti is a dynamic dance that stresses intricate hip isolations, grace, and stamina.
Mahealani Uchiyama, founder and director of the Mahea Uchiyama Center for International Dance in Berkeley, CA will guide you through a two hour Ori Tahiti workshop which will include a vigorous warm up, an intermediate / advanced level 'ote'a (dance performed to drummed accompaniment) and 'ahuroa, (dance accompanied by singing which is at once lyrical and powerful.
Mahea Uchiyama is the director of KaUaTuahine, a competitive Tahitian Dance ensemble,and has won numerous awards in dance, chant, singing and drumming from competitions throughout California and Hawai'i.
Note: Please bring a pareu or sarong for your hips, water and a towel.
