Mondo Bizarro and M.U.G.A.B.E.E. at Performance West
Performance West Showcase is an evening of work by our festival leaders on Saturday April 10, 2010 at the XRTC, 8:00 to 10pm.
THE RACE PEACE by Mondo Bizarro and M.U.G.A.B.E.E. ÂÂ ÂÂa multi-generational performance work about the debilitating fog of racism that provides an opportunity for people to celebrate and explore common bonds, debate their differences, and lay the civic foundation to pursue solutions to their problems.
The Project Race Peace represents the rare occasion when four theater companies, Mondo Bizarro (New Orleans, LA), M.U.G.A.B.E.E. (Raymond, MS), Junebug Productions Inc. (New Orleans, LA) and Roadside Theater (Norton, VA), all of which have consistently created performances from the stories and music of their own culture, come together to create art that transverses cultural boundaries while maintaining each culture's integrity.
At its core are painful, unanswered questions about the role racism plays on our personal and professional relationships and, in turn, society at large. We want to graft these difficult questions about racism onto our work and ourselves as a means of questioning/evaluating the impact that art has in creating change and illuminating disparity about this debilitating social issue.
