Child of Resistance + Selected Short Films
L.A. Rebellion
Mar 24
(Haile Gerima, United States, 1972, 16mm, 83 min)
Sunday, Mar 24 at 08:00PM
Barbara O. Jones, whose legend would be formed with her role in Bush Mama, brings to life Haile Gerima's charged daydream of a woman activist in chains. Seething with the political current of the early 1970s, Child of Resistance provides great company for a second mid-length film screening tonightBrick by Brick, which documents black residents of Washington, D.C. coming together to avoid being bought out of their homes.
Accompanying these two hard-hitting films are three shorts that capture the politics of place: O. Funmilayo Makarah's L.A. on My Mind, Melvonna Ballenger's Rain and Carroll Blue and Kristy Kang's The Dawn at My Back: Memoir of a Black Texas Upbringing.
Tonight's program is part of our month-long series L.A. Rebellion. Read More >>
