My Brother's Wedding
L.A. Rebellion

Mar 08

Director's Cut!

Director in Attendance!

Friday, Mar 08 at 08:00PM

In Charles Burnett's follow up to Killer of Sheep (1977), Pierce, a laid off factory worker, returns to work for his family's dry cleaning business. In Burnett's renowned, unadorned narrative style and richly detailed settings, we see Pierce pulled between the two worlds of his brother's upper-middle-class fiancé and an old friend who was recently released from prison. Through Pierce's choices, My Brother's Wedding speaks beyond personal conflict to a community that was itself at a crossroads. Join us after the screening for a rare chance to chat with legendary director Charles Burnett in person.

SCREENS WITH: A Little Off Mark. Mark is almost the whole package. He's a nice guy and good looking, but terribly tongue-tied around women. With the help of frequent encouragement from his best friend, Mark transforms from a sketchy stalker to a co-ed catch. This rare L.A. Rebellion rom-com broadens the narrative possibilities of "black film" by telling a story of adolescent anxiety with an all-black cast.

Tonight's program is part of our month-long series L.A. Rebellion. Read More >>
