Night of January 16th - Palo Alto Show
Night of January 16th
A courtroom drama where you are the juror
adapted and directed by Ravi Bhatnagar
produced by Alka Sippy
Night of January 16th is a courtroom drama featuring a sensational murder trial.
The ravishing Radhika Roy stands trial for the murder of her boss and paramour, the financier Jai Walia. Witnesses for the prosecution and defense paint her alternately as shrewd and hapless, murderer and victim, schemer and pawn. At the end of the play, the verdict - guilty or not guilty - is rendered by the audience.
First produced in 1934, Ayn Rand's play was made into a Hollywood film and has been staged countless times. While Ayn Rand thought of the play as an expression of her Objectivist philosophy (which has been both admired and ridiculed), critics focused more on its complex plot, its melodrama, its gimmick of seating jurors from the audience on stage, and what they called "great entertainment". Originally set in New York, the play
has been adapted by Naatak.
