CONCERT - SATURDAY NIGHT - PLEASANCE THEATRE - Scots Fiddle Festival
SALTFISHFORTY

Saltfishforty are a hugely entertaining, fresh and dynamic duo hailing from the Orkney Islands which comprise Douglas Montgomery on fiddle and viola and Brian Cromarty on guitar, mandola and vocals, combining the rich traditional music of Orkney with
original compositions. The powerhouse partnership have won a devoted following throughout the UK and beyond, brilliantly transcending the duos conventional confines. Currently linchpin figures in a flourishing revival of Orkneys traditional music scene, they unite these deep-rooted sources with an exhilarating
breadth of influence and expertise, catalysed by a creative empathy born from decades of friendship. The result is a sound of equally thrilling raw attack and multi-dimensional richness.
And Malcolm says the chat is pretty good as well!

KINNARIS QUINTET

Fiona MacAskill (fiddle), Laura Wilkie (fiddle), Aileen Gobbi (5 string fiddle), Laura-Beth Salter (mandolin) and Jenn Butterworth (guitar) collectively form the Kinnaris Quintet. Between them they have performed with Shooglenifty, Fiddlers Bid, Niteworks, the Shee, Salsa Celtica, Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson Band, Fat-Suit, Songs of Separation and Phil Cunningham to name but a few.
Living in Glasgow has brought these 5 musicians together and what makes Kinnaris Quintets dynamic and compelling sound is the marriage of their diverse musical backgrounds, influences and styles. Intermingling new compositions, traditional Scottish and Irish, Bluegrass, Old-Time and Classical music, their musical styles form a sound which is uplifting, fresh, honest and powerful.

Youth Engagement Programme -
Adam Sutherland

Over the years, Saturday night has seen the evening concert opened by our Outreach Project, which was a very popular feature of the concert.
In a year of change we have varied the concept, and are now inviting established fiddlers to give a short course of masterclasses in the months preceding the Festival, to a group of young musicians, passing on the tradition, and their experience and enthusiasm, to a new generation.
The Festival is delighted that Adam Sutherland will lead the first course of this new Youth Engagement Programme. With an impeccable fiddle pedigree, as player, composer, and teacher, covering and extending the Scots fiddle repertoire, Adam is a fitting person to launch our new series.
Our young musicians come from all backgrounds all over Scotland, united by a common desire to play and enjoy Scots fiddle music - and have fun!
