Earshot Jazz concert by Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra (SWOJO), featuring vocalist Rosana Eckert and the world premiere of "L'illusionniste" by Seulah Noh, the winning composition in SWOJOs 2019 contest for women jazz composers.

Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra, founded in 2000 as the first all-female jazz band in the region, has for almost twenty years supported the musical development and performance skills of female jazz musicians through its concerts, its annual composition contest for women jazz composers, and its Girls Jazz Band workshop.

SWOJOs 2018 Earshot Jazz concert was a near sell-out; the band expects to draw a large audience for its 2019 show as well and is thrilled to have renowned vocalist Rosana Eckert as a guest artist.

Rosana Eckert is an internationally renowned vocalist, songwriter, arranger, and jazz educator. Formerly an accomplished French horn player, Rosana kicked off her jazz singing career as a member of the 1999 Sisters in Jazz Collegiate Sextet which performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival. She was also part of the 2000 Thelonious Monk Aspen Jazz Colony, mentored by such luminaries as Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Russell Malone, Dianne Reeves, and musical director Christian McBride. Rosana made a big splash with her debut CD, At the End of the Day, which was hailed as a musical celebration (AllAboutJazz.com) and a superior debut (Cadence Magazine) and was a finalist for Best New Jazz Album in the 2006 Independent Music Awards. She has gone on to perform and/or record with such greats as Lyle Mays, Kenny Wheeler, George Duke, Jon Faddis, Marvin Stamm, Bobby McFerrin, and the New York Voices. Her highly anticipated 4th solo album, Sailing Home, has been called bright and imaginative, alluring, world-class, and a diverse, accomplished array by the press. Produced by renowned singer/songwriter Peter Eldridge (New York Voices), Sailing Home features all original music and was released in summer 2019 on Origin OA2 Records.

A respected educator, Rosana was the first woman to join the jazz faculty of the University of North Texas in the fall of 1999, helping build its vocal jazz department into one of the best in the world. Her many vocal ensemble arrangements have been sung worldwide, and her acclaimed new book Singing with Expression, was published by Hal Leonard in June 2018.
