The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley 65th Anniversary Concert Extravaganza featuring Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., jazz singer and 2011 Americas Got Talent winner will be rescheduled to December, 2021 to ensure the health and safety of all attendees. Exact date and location will be announced as soon as possible. Opening Act is Stand Up for Downs has agreed to the reschedule as well.
Out of an abundance of caution and in light of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in our area we made the decision to reschedule, says Liz Ford, Executive Director of The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley. We have worked closely with Landau and his team and appreciate their continued support.
Burke Allen, Senior Media Strategist, Allen Media Strategies, and Murphy, Jr. are offering a free online concert through SessionsLive on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 7 p.m. for all ticket holders and sponsors of The Arcs 65th Anniversary concert. Links to the concert are being finalized and will be shared within the next two weeks.
We know rescheduling has been tough for so many, says Murphy, Jr. I too miss seeing all your faces and performing throughout my home state and hope you will join us online December 17, 2020 and in person in December 2021!
Murphy, Jr. has recently recovered from COVID-19 and described his case as mild. Im grateful that because of the pandemic, Im not where I usually am, which is around lots of peopleon tour, in airports, hotels, on airplanes, in theaters and performing arts centers, around my musicians, fans, and friends. Normally, I would be interacting with literally hundreds of people every week, he shared on his Facebook page.
Since 1955, The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley has dedicated itself to ensuring a satisfying and productive life for children and adults with intellectual, cognitive, and related developmental disabilities by providing programs and services that enable, empower and encourage people to live, learn, work and play in their community along with their peers and neighbors.
Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. will bring the Sounds of Sinatra and the Magic of Motown to the Mid-Ohio Valley this December and next. Murphy grew up in Logan County, WV and rose to fame in 2011 winning Americas Got Talent and with the subsequent release of his first album Thats Life. Landau is well known to Parkersburg area audiences for his sold out Home for the Holidays Christmas Tour stops in Parkersburg at the Smoot Theater.
Murphy has toured around the world sharing such hits as My Way, Ive Got You under My Skin, and Fly Me to the Moon. He has performed at the Super Bowl, Madison Square Garden and Mountaineer Field. Murphy was most recently special guest for Marshall Universitys Jazz Ensemble at Parkersburg South High School in April, 2019.
Opening Act Stand Up For Downs was created in 2013 by Rob and Ellen Snow. It was formed out of the combination of their love for their son Henry, who has Down syndrome, and Robs background in performing and producing comedy. The mission of Stand Up For Downs is to enhance the lives of those with Down syndrome through humor.
They cast the worlds first all Down syndrome improvisation troupe in 2018. The Improvaneers were born. This program is now reaching across the country and will become the missing link in job coaching/training programs everywhere. The Improvaneers have attracted considerable media attention having articles in The Washington Post, The Mighty, TodayShow.com, Womans World, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, and more. They have also been featured on Inside Edition, The List, AOL/Verizons Good People, Fox New Day Cleveland, CBS Sunny Side Up and more.
The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley oversees West Virginia Birth to Three RAU2, People First of West Virginia and multiple programs and services.
WV Birth to Three provides free services to infants and toddlers under the age of three who have a delay in one or more areas of their cognitive, physical, social/emotional, adaptive, or communication development.
The Arcs Annual Secret Christmas project provides Christmas gifts and cookies to adults and teens 13+ years old, with intellectual, cognitive, or related disabilities who are above the age for assistance from other community programs and have a demonstrated financial need with little, or no, family support to cover their clothing, grooming, transportation, and social needs.
The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valleys Inclusive Summer Day Program provides students with the opportunity to participate in four weeks of fun. Summer Day offers an opportunity to engage in a variety of community-based recreational activities with peers that can lead to life-long friendship. It is implemented in a caring and supportive environment that brings together students, counselors and volunteers for fun, personal growth and memories that last a lifetime.
