At ROCSTART, our mission is to raise awareness of Oral Cancer and provide support to Oral Cancer patients throughout their treatment. The majority of our fundraising activities will involve visual or performing arts and the proceeds will provide products or services to help those in need during the most trying of times. Our goal is to be an organization of caring individuals who work diligently to improve the quality of life of the patients while adding value to the community in general.
The foundation was created by an oral cancer survivor, Cynthia Platt, who recognized a need for increased awareness of Oral Cancer within her community. Additionally, she found that even when a patient receives the best medical care available, the "little things" often fall by the wayside. The special needs of an Oral Cancer patient are many and are not always immediately identified, met, or covered by insurance. Dental care, xerostomia (dry mouth) products, radiation burn prevention - to name but a few.
Initially funded by donations from friends and family, the foundation is dependent on donations from the public and is a 501c3 non-profit organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service.
