Trois Leçons de Ténèbres
Couperins Trois Leçons de Ténèbres (Three Lessons of Darkness) (1714) is a dramatic musical retelling about the siege of Jerusalem. Our interpretation acts as an ode to Palestine, involving one meager light source illuminating, at first, only the singer and then expanding to envelop the entire stage and audience in light, as things literally comes to light in our world, in the way that technology is raising awareness today. The text shifts from the original Latin to Arabic poetry by Palestinian poets. Proceeds will go to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund, which provides free medical care for children from Gaza.
