Configuration Dance Theatre & School of Ballet is delighted to present one of the world's most beloved ballets, The Nutcracker! This unique production opens with Clara, the heroine of the traditional version, now in her eighties telling the story of one very special Christmas Eve some seventy years earlier. Although set in Buffalo, New York (renowned City of Light) during the year of the Pan American exposition of 1901, the production remains true to its ballet tradition and to Tchaikovsky's beloved and sumptuous score.
Director Joseph Cipolla explains The beauty of The Nutcracker is in its ability to be told in a variety of settings and from different perspectives while remaining true to its structure and musical form.
The magic begins at a Christmas party in the home of Clara when she was a child. Some of the city's most celebrated citizens of that time are present, and the house, now wired for electricity, displays a Christmas tree that has been decorated for the first time with electric Christmas tree lights.
Audiences of all ages take a trip back in time to an enchanted era when electric light illuminated the imaginations of young and old. Director, Kolleen Fischer adds this is a wonderful opportunity for our dancers, and others in the community to become more connected to our city's heritage at a truly magical time of year. And what better way than through the magic of The Nutcracker in the City of Light?
