We are offering 2 half day sessions: via ZOOM Webinar:
Part A Tuesday February 2, 2021
Courses
Feng Shui and its Application to Architectural Design Projects - 2.0 AIA LU-HSW/PDH / LA CES R.D. Chin - Architect
9:00 am 11:00 am
Feng Shui is an ancient practice which began over 3,500 years ago in Asia. Feng Shui literally means wind + water. Feng Shui experienced a resurgence in the US during the 1980s and has been popular ever since. It consists of universal principles of site and space planning, involving establishing axes and locating significant objects. Attendees will learn how to apply these ancient principles to todays contemporary design and planning projects.
Producing Green HERS Rated Homes Using Solar & Geothermal Systems - 2.0 AIA LU-HSW / PDH Jean-Pierre Clejan, NABCEP, IGSHPA, Technology Executive, GreenLogic Energy
11:00 am 1:00 pm Design and implement a green home complying with the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index. Understand how solar electricity and geothermal HVAC systems are incorporated into both new and retrofit projects. This session closely analyzes the appreciable economic and environmental benefits, and how they can contribute to a LEED and/or HERS rating. State and local building code compliance issues will be discussed, as well. This session will review examples of recently completed installations and their associated results.
Part B - Wednesday February 3, 2021
Courses
Methods for Planning and Implementing a Garden Roof Design for Sustainable Technologies - 2.0 AIA LU-HSW/PDH / GBCI / LA CES Jörg Breuning Green Roof Technology
9:00 am 11:00 am
The course starts by assessing the need for vegetated roofs. The key benefits of vegetated green roofs are examined with a cross reference to LEED categories. These benefits are further examined by briefly reviewing tools that are available to evaluate life cycle savings. Topics covered include: green roof components, their assembly and construction, structural analysis, performance standards, vegetation free zones, irrigation needs, water capture & reuse, and retrofit projects.
Green Infrastructure and Stormwater Management - 2.0 AIA LU-HSW / PDH / GBCI /LA CES Vincent Lee, PE ARUP
11:00 am 1:00 pm Our water bodies suffer from combined sewer overflow and our Eco-systems are polluted and need repair. The need for green streetscapes is arising throughout the U.S.; a move that involves a multi-disciplined approach that includes: architects, landscape architects, urban designers, transport planners and others.
