Warsaw, 1920. Young Ola, a talented actress in variety theater, is the fiancé of Jan, a left leaning poet and flamboyant cavalryman. After receiving orders to leave for the front, Jan i proposes to Ola, and they decide to marry immediately. The marriage takes place in Saint Anna's Church with young Father Ignacy Skorupka presiding. The powerful Red Army approached, marching westward to conquer the continent. During the fighting, Jan is accused of communist sympathies and Bolshevik agitation. He is court martialed and sentenced to death. Meanwhile, in the theater, Ola is being harassed by her ardent admirer, military police Captain Kostrzewa. Ola then enters the Womens Auxiliary Legion to serve as a nurse and prepares to defend Warsaw. She still hope to find her husband who has vanished.

Warszawa, rok 1920. Ola jest aktorka warszawskiego teatru rewiowego i narzeczona Jana, lewicujacego poety i kawalerzysty. Po otrzymaniu rozkazu wyjazdu na front, Jan postanawia oswiadczyc sie Oli i natychmiast ozenic.Slubu w kosciele sw. Anny w Warszawie udziela mlodym ksiadz Ignacy Skorupka. Potezna Armia Czerwona nieuchronnie zmierza na podbój calego kontynentu. Podczas walk Jan zostaje posadzony o sympatie komunistyczne i bolszewicka agitacje. Sad wojskowy skazuje go na kare smierci. Tymczasem Ole nachodzi w teatrze natretny wielbiciel, kapitan zandarmerii Kostrzewa. Wkrótce Ola wstepuje do Ochotniczej Legii Kobiet jako sanitariuszka i przygotowuje sie do obrony Warszawy. Wciaz ma nadzieje na odnalezienie meza, po którym wszelki slad zaginal.
