Sounding Light Chamber Choir Celebrates Bach's Birthday

Based in Plymouth, MI., sounding light Chamber Choir will offer a fitting tribute for Johann Sebastian Bachs birthday as the next Great Spaces Concert at Grace Cathedral on Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
Bachs music has enlightened musicians and audiences for more than three centuries. sounding light gathers professional singers from six states to celebrate Bachs 335th birthday by offering five of his six choral motets- among the most challenging and rewarding pieces in the choral repertoire. Conductor Tom Trenney also performs Bachs incomparable Passacaglia for organ to round out the program.

sounding light was recently honored with Third Place for the American Prize for the Performance of American Music in the professional ensemble division. This follows the choir's celebrated appearance at the 2017 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. Led by its founder, Tom Trenney, sounding light is committed to offering its members a spiritual and holistic approach to ensemble singing while offering its listeners a compelling and timeless experience with the choral art. Since its birth in 2003, sounding light has been privileged to sing with Anton Armstrong, Joseph Flummerfelt, Stacey Gibbs, Alice Parker, and Jake Runestad. Tom Trenney, conductor
Tom Trenney is grateful to be in his 17th season as conductor of sounding light, an ensemble he founded in 2003. Since 2009, Tom has served as Minister of Music to First-Plymouth Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, shepherding three adult choirs, accompanying worship on the organ, and preaching sermons. In 2017, two of Toms ensembles performed at the national convention of the American Choral Directors Association. For 2019-20, Tom serves as Interim Choral Conductor at Nebraska Wesleyan University, having held similar positions at Wartburg College and Doane University. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music, Tom is grateful for the inspiration of Anton Armstrong, David Davidson, Craig Hella Johnson, (Mister) Rogers, William Weinert, Anne and Todd Wilson. www.tomtrenney.com
