Cantata Profana presents ON THE THRESHOLD OF WINTER and FABLES
Irondale Center
Brooklyn, NY
Share this event:

Cantata Profana is bringing their newest show, FABLES, to the Irondale Center, in repertory with Michael Hersch's "searing" (NYTimes) monodrama ON THE THRESHOLD OF WINTER. A landmark work of contemporary modernism, Hersch's two-hour monodrama for soprano and eight instruments is part symphony, part herculean mad scene. The work is a harrowing portrait of a battle with cancer and a tour de force for the soprano soloist, Ah Young Hong. Hong premiered the work in 2014 and now directs the New York premiere of this stark new production. Visit thresholdopera.com to learn more.

To set this monolithic piece in relief, Cantata Profana has created a vibrant companion show, FABLES, in their signature style. FABLES weaves a story from loss, healing, love, and our timeless dance with nature, featuring works for modern and period instruments by Rahilia Hasanova, Klaus Lang, John Dowland, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Claudio Monteverdi. Once again, Cantata Profana draws together rarely-heard works from every chapter of music history, reveling in how it all fits together.

Reserve your seats for both THRESHOLD and FABLES, with additional programming and special events throughout the weekend. All tickets are sold in packages: 2-day passes (Thursday-Friday), 1-day passes (Saturday marathon), and 3-day passes (entry to all events for the brave and adventurous).
