103.1 The Edge Presents EDGEFEST 2020 w/ All That Remains
Friends -

While this may not come as much of a surprise to you given that the whole WORLD has seemingly been cancelled this year, it's still a really crummy and difficult announcement to write.  Despite our best efforts and the best efforts of Cactus Petes and all affiliated sponsors and parties, we unfortunately share with you today the disappointing news that Edgefest 2020 has been cancelled.

In short, to make tours work, bands have to route their schedules from one town to the next, so that every day they hit the freeway for a few hours and are able to make it to the next gig without having to buy plane tickets for every member of their band and crew, and even more plane tickets to fly their guitars, drums and amps around the country.  Because SO many shows and festivals have already pulled the plug, this has led to logistical impossibilities for several of the bands on the Edgefest 2020 bill logistical impossibilities that make it impossible for them to make it to Edgefest on August 1st.  I won't share with you which bands had to bail and which bands were still trying to make a go of it, because that's not fair to them.  This isn't fair to anyone - and certainly not fair to YOU, the concert goer who was excited to see a great rock show in August.  Having said all of that, it's also not for a lack of effort on behalf of any of the bands that were scheduled to play the show.   Every band reached out, and every band did everything in their power to try and make this happen for you.  The country effectively shut down in March, and while some states have been more ambitious than others to re-open their collective doors, sadly we're not yet at a place as a COUNTRY to accommodate tours - because again, in our current climate, they're logistically impossible.  In fact, as of today the State of Nevada isn't allowing for crowds and gatherings of more than 50 people - so even IF the bands didn't have to remove themselves from the bill, there's a very real possibility that the State of Nevada would have cancelled our festival anyways.

We here at 103.1 The Edge are working on putting together a virtual festival to air on The Edge on August 1st.  The special broadcast will be packed with live performances and interviews from not only this year's Edgefest bands, but from Edgefest alumni as well.  We'll have more information for you on this special presentation in the next few weeks.  Keep an eye on our socials for all the details, and plan a backyard BBQ with 103.1 The Edge as your soundtrack on August 1st instead.  You bring the beer and steaks, and we'll deliver the tunes and entertainment to your party through your radio.

All ticket holders will be refunded their full purchase price - and those refunds will be issued to your original form of payment.  For example, if you paid using your debit card, you will see a credit appear from Brown Paper Tickets, our ticket vendor, on your bank statement in the next 7-10 days.  If you are an Edgefest ticket holder, you need not take any action or request a refund as the refund process is already underway and your refund will be issued automatically.  We thought that given our current economic climate, rather than go the direction of several other festivals and say "Hang on to your ticket and use it at next year's festival!" we would simply issue refunds to ALL ticket holders - and then make sure those who were planning on attending Edgefest 2020 are the very first to know about our plans for Edgefest 2021 as soon as next year's festival starts to materialize.  We have your e-mail addresses, and we'll tell you all about our plans to rock even harder next year as soon as we have a plan in place.

All I can tell you to do at this point is to go buy a t-shirt or bumper sticker from your favorite band.  While we're all disappointed that our DAY of rock music can't happen, imagine the financial and emotional burden that BANDS are facing right now as their LIFE of rock music - their primary means of income - has been and continues to be completely unstable and unpredictable for the foreseeable future.  I've talked to several small venue owners across the country these last few weeks, and the number of concert halls that have been forced to close their doors permanently as a direct result of coronavirus restrictions and shutdowns is alarming.  Additionally, I've talked to several band members from bands you know and love who have been forced to hang up their guitars for the time being and go get a real job just to make ends meet.  Believe me when I say that this time period in our world is no fun for anyone in the music business - and let's be honest, it's no fun for ANYONE - PERIOD.

I also encourage you to thank and spend a few extra bucks with each and every one of the Edgefest 2020 sponsors - namely, WarmArt Tattoo & Body Piercing, Cactus Petes Resort & Casino, Plant Therapy, Mr. Gas, Wilson Bates of Burley, Rob Green Auto Group, Speedcraft Printing & Awards, Boise Rigging Supply and Satellite Touring.  As we've shared this disappointing news with them over these last few days, every single one of them was just as bummed out as we are.  Their partnership with Edgefest was more than a simple marketing decision.  They, too, are passionate about live music and more than anything, they were thrilled to be a part of bringing a fantastic live one-of-a-kind festival experience to the Southern Idahoans they serve.

So again, in closing - Edgefest 2020 has been officially cancelled - and we look forward to delivering you a live experience you'll never forget in 2021.  Thanks for your support, and we'll have information on what Edgefest 2021 looks like as soon as the world calms down and gets back to its new normal.  And remember to tune in to 103.1 The Edge on August 1st for a special virtual festival experience featuring Edgefest bands that were to play this year, and those who have played Edgefest in the past.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and thanks for your understanding and continued support during this craptastic time.  Know that were even more bummed out than you are.
