Birth Ready II: Labor
After this class, participants will leave prepared to identify labor and work through each stage. This class will greatly benefit mothers and partners who are choosing an epidural, as well as those desiring an unmedicated birth.
Topics will include:
Overcoming birth fears and anxieties
Creating personal birth affirmations
Stages of labor
Physical and mental changes throughout labor
Hands-on support partners can use
Positions for each stage of labor
Pushing positions
Q & A session
The class is presented by Ali and Jess, two local birth doulas.
Ali is a mother of four who's passion for doula work began as she prepared herself for the birth of her first child 8 years ago. Through her experiences in childbirth, she understood first hand how meaningful support during labor is and desired to help others during this pivotal moment. Her four births were unmedicated hospital births and two of them were water births. As a doula she has supported mothers with and without epidurals, first time moms, VBACs (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), spontaneous labors, and inductions. She believes there is no "right" way to birth, so long as the mother feels listened to and supported.
Jess is the owner of Tangi Birth Services. She's a mom of 2 boys, ages 4 & 2. Her journey to doula work stemmed from an unnecessary cesarean with her oldest child. She didn't have much knowledge about the birth process and none of her family knew anything outside of letting the doctors make all the decisions. This birth experience led her to research a ton when she became pregnant with her second. Through that research she found out about doulas, and instantly knew it was what she was meant to do. Her passion is to change the birth culture in our area, and area with some of the highest cesarean rates in the country. She believe doulas are critical in birth here. She tends to lean to the crunchy side as a mother using gentle parenting and researching any and every topic that comes up. Outside of her family, birth work is her love!
