Mo Pleasure & Friends Benefit Concert for Guilford A Better Chance
Guilford's own Mo Pleasure returns for the first time in 2 years, along with musical guests, including Guilford High School Music Department students in a Benefit Concert for Guilford A Better Chance (Guilford ABC).
Mo Pleasure was born in Guilford and he attended the public schools here. His father, Robert Pleasure, was the long-time principal of A.W. Cox Elementary School in Guilford and one of the Guilford ABC founders. Morris graduated from UConn and then played with Ray Charles. In 1993, he joined the legendary Earth, Wind and Fire and soon became the groups musical director. He also played keyboard, trumpet and guitar with Janet Jacksons All for You tour. He continues to thrill audiences world-wide!
Morris Pleasure met his future wife here in Guilford, Lori, when she arrived from Cleveland, Ohio in the second year of the Guilford ABC program.
About GUILFORD A BETTER CHANCE: GABC provides, quite literally, A Better Chance to academically gifted students of color who come from communities lacking access to quality educational opportunities. Six promising scholars live as a family with a resident director in a house owned by the program. They attend Guilford High School and participate in school, sports and community activities, supported by caring adults who provide day-to-day guidance and helping hands. Guilford A Better Chance provides an environment for these young scholars to explore their interests, develop their strengths, and benefit from opportunities they might otherwise be denied. The education our scholars receive at Guilford High School allows them to excel and compete effectively in colleges, universities and the workplace. Our scholars go forward to change our world for the better!
