From Stardust to Penny Lane A Celebration of the Popular Trumpet featuring Jay Daly, trumpet virtuoso
Ahhh...Those beloved trumpet classics that spark your memory of yesteryear. Or maybe you didn't realize that the trumpet was an immensely popular Top 40 instrument for much of the 20th century.
Nearly forty-five years after having graduated from Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, NH where he started to develop his craft and love of the trumpet. Jay Daly returns to his roots to perform before his home town audience in the school's auditorium. It's an occasion he has dreamed of for many years, made even more special since he will be accompanied by the Durham, NH based, first rate, 17-piece Seacoast Big Band who he performed with as a regular member from 1980-88.
Jay will pay tribute to the great masters who were widely recognized as pop artists of their time. Jay holds a personal connection with each melody, from having the opportunity to perform Stardust with the Artie Shaw Orchestra to simply enjoying playing along with their records as a young beginner. The sounds of Harry James, Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, Chuck Mangione, and of course, Louis Armstrong, plus the Beatles tune, Penny Lane to name a few, all changed and influenced the American pop culture and are featured on this program.
For almost 40 years, Jays soaring lead trumpet has been a mainstay of Bostons diverse music venues. From Symphony Hall to the Colonial Theater, from the Boston Opera House to Tanglewood, he has endeared himself to audiences and fellow musicians alike as one of the most versatile trumpet players in the Boston area, in the words of the Boston Globe. Jay is a favorite with touring star attractions. His talents have been tapped by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Natalie Cole, Linda Rondstadt, the Moody Blues, and many others.
Jay has been the lead trumpet player for the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA for the last 28 years, one of the finest regional theaters in the country. Jay also leads his own group, the New England Brass which began in 1980 following his graduation at UNH.
