The Gunks Climbing Film Festival sponsored Rock and Snow
A weekend to celebrate climbing, conservation and the passion of the Gunks community!
This event is organized and produced by the Gunks Climbers' Coalition in partnership with the Mohonk Preserve. All proceeds go toward climbing and land conservation efforts in the Shawangunks Mountains of NY.
Come get together with your fellow rock warriors to hangout, chat and watch some of the best climbing films out this season!
The Gunks Climbing Film Festival is a two day event with the Main Film Fest event taking place at the Studley Theater at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday Oct 12th t 6pm. We will be premiering:
- ADAPTIVE - Jim Ewing a Sterling Rope engineer and below-the-knee amputee enlists professional climber, Maureen Beck born without her left hand to attempt the first all-adaptive ascent of the über classic and deeply remote Lotus Flower Tower (5.10+) in Canada's Cirque of the Unclimbables. As their adventure unfolds, we see that the ability to adapt is universal and a common thread that unites us.
- Horns Out - Maurice Horn a 77 year old Montana climber, grapples with existential questions about his sense of place, identity, aging, and mortality.
- No Man's Land Film Festival collection with shorts that are un-defining what it means to be a woman in Adventure, Sport & Film!
- More films to be announced!
We will also have a very special guest introduction!
Will be hosting two contests throughout the night:
- The Gunks Grunt Pull-up Contest sponsored by Furnace Industries!
- The Sterling Rope Coiling Contest!
There will be a FREE Coffee & Cams Breakfast Sponsored by Rock & Snow on Saturday Morning outside of the Rock & Snow Annex! We will also be having a very special Pro Climber & Alpinist doing a poster signing at the breakfast!
