How to Make Alcohol Intermediary Oils
If you've never heard of an alcohol intermediary oil (AIO), don't be put off! They are surprisingly easy, and WELL worth the effort. It is a type of herbal infused oil that creates a much more medicinally potent product than the regular method. You can use your infused oils to make medicinal salves for things like eczema, wounds or bug bites, you can use them straight on the skin as massage oils, or you can incorporate them into emulsified creams.
An AIO uses high proof alcohol to extract stuff from the herbs first, which is evaporated off later after the oil has been mixed in. Because alcohol is such a great extractor, the oils end up fantastically potent. If the plant is green, the oils end up a deep emerald! Amazing. This is an indispensable skill if you're someone who loves creating plant medicines, and loves creating POTENT medicines. I really hope you can join me, as I feel really jazzed to be teaching this class.
Please bring an apron so you don't get oil on your clothing. Students will take home a portion of what we make in class!
