Scholars Working Group -- Exhibiting Jews: Museum Exhibition and the Interpretation of Jewish History
The scholars working group convened by Helen Evans from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Steven Fine from Yeshiva University will be exploring the ways that Jews and Judaism are displayed and thus interpreted in museum settings. While significant for Jewish studies, we view this project as a test case for discussion of the ways that other minority/religious communities are interpreted through exhibition.
This first meeting will be organizational and conceptual, opening with a discussion of goals and objectives for our two-year project.
