Event
Ending the Silence & Healing the Home
According to statistics, every 9 seconds in the U. S. a woman is a domestic violence victim. The impact is great. It is said that 1 in every 4 women is a victim of domestic violence. Nuisance ordinance and "zero tolerance" rules requiring the eviction of families dealing with domestic violence have a negative impact on victims/survivors and their families. The impact... EVICTION. The eviction often times causes homelessness! This is the second year that we are holding this event. There is a need to inform those who are victims/survivors of the protection offered by the Fair Housing and Landlord/Tenant Laws. Speakers at the event will talk about their organizations and the services they offer to assist housing providers in doing the right thing and avoid litigation.
Spend a day with us where you will receive information about: *How the laws protect victims/survivors of domestic violence *Shelters and Services *Programs designed to protect the survivors of domestic violence
Lunch is on us that day! We do ask one favor of you. We ask that you to look through your closets or ask your wives and daughters to do so and fill an old pocketbook with toiletries. The pocketbooks will be divided amongst the participating shelters...and will be a gift to victims/survivors often times escaping with nothing. thank you in advance.
