Working Blue: Comedy in the Red Room
Local comics Chaz Blevins and Johnny Camacho are pleased to present Working Blue, a joint production with Blue 5 in downtown Roanoke. Working Blue features live stand-up comedy from some of the regions top talent.
For our inaugural show, weve put together a lineup of killers.
Headliner Winston Hodges: Winston Hodges is from a small town called Farmville (at least that is what he tells people, he is actually from a town so small he would know if you were from it!) in rural Virginia. He has spent his time working comedy clubs with his southern charm and edgy wit. His first time performing he won the competition at the Richmond Funny Bones Clash Of Comics, and he has never looked back. You can hear him discussing growing up in a Christian home and working with children who have special needs all while providing a fun and energetic take on all the things we want to say but never do!
Featuring Melissa Douty: Melissa Douty brings her unique, authentic comedy to every show; encompassing fans of all ages. Very personable with an almost Aw, shucks delivery, Melissas comedy is sort of like that really smooth liquor that is so easy to drink and then hits you like a sledgehammer out of nowhere! Melissa is a nationally touring comedian based in Salem, VA. Melissa brings the same slap your knee enthusiasm to every show, from backyard cookouts, comedy clubs and corporate events, to the big lights and big stages of large theaters! Known for her clean comedy, down-home charm and quick-wit Melissa appeals to fans both young and old.
Featuring Chaz Blevins: Chaz Blevins is an up-and-coming local comedian based in Roanoke, Virginia. Though originally from West Virginia, he somehow managed to escape before marrying any relatives. He has performed at venues such as Greensboros Idiot Box Comedy Club and WROVs Brew Ha-Ha. His often relatable, self reflecting, and sometimes self deprecating brand of comedy touches on everything from growing up poor in WV, to the importance of family, to the shared monanity of our daily routine; all conveyed through a warm and sharp-witted lense.
MC Johnny Camacho: Johnny Camacho is a local comic and producer with over 7 years of performance experience. He has played venues across New York City - both as a stand-up and improviser - and learned the art and business of comedy production while working at the famed Carolines on Broadway. His production credits include Sarah Silverman at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and an April Fools showcase at the New York Friars Club. In the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas, he regularly produces and hosts sold-out shows and runs the bi-weekly comedy open mic at Shishka downtown.
The Venue: Blue 5s Red Room is a hidden gem in the downtown bar scene. Literally underground, it radiates the vibe of a speakeasy or jazz club from a bygone era. On top of the undeniable ambience, Blue 5s food and drinks are among the highest quality in the Roanoke Valley.
