Portuguese through Music Workshop

Join us for a fun morning of Brazilian music at the new Favela Cafe!

You will learn vocabulary and pronunciation in Portuguese while studying and listening to beautiful Brazilian sambas. Instructor Luciana Diniz will teach the language, and musicians Francisco Marques and Alexandra Santos will accompany the students while they learn how to sing each part of the songs.

Some basic knowledge of Portuguese is necessary in order
to follow the language portion of the workshop.

Instructors:
Luciana Diniz (language) - Luciana is originally from Brazil and has been teaching ESL and Portuguese for over 15 years. Languages and music are two of her passions, so she is happy to offer this workshop to people who also love Brazilian music. She teaches a "Portuguese through Music" class in the spring at Portland Community College.

Francisco Marques (percussion) - Born in São Paulo, Brazil and raised in the United States, Francisco Marques is a multi instrumentalist and singer who has been studying, teaching and performing Brazilian music in Colorado
for 17 years. He regularly collaborates with out of state artists and educators for performances and workshops but spends a bulk of his time in Boulder and Denver playing Brazilian music with Ginga, Grupo Chegando Lá, Pagode na Pedra and Sambadendé.

Alexandra Santos (singer) - Originally from Brazil, Alexandra Santos started singing at an early age accompanied by her father at the guitar. Since she arrived in Portland ten years ago, Alexandra has been singing with different ensembles, including Bloco Alegria and Sexteto Brasil. Her beautiful voice and charisma have captivated Brazilian music lovers in Portland.
